Break The Chains

Is there anyway

to break free?

She often cries

in desperate pleas.

Hands raised,

she prays; she kneels.

Will she ever heal?

Freedom seems

like a dream,

so unreachable,

so unattainable,

and so distant.

Will she ever escape?

Her soul aches.

The darkness

has stolen her

joy away.

Hear my cries, Lord,

she prays.

Breathe life

back into these

weary, broken,

and bruised bones.

The chains

feel so heavy,

so cruel,

and merciless.

The weight is so

unbearable.

Why does the pain

laugh and mock,

thrashing relentlessly

and refusing to stop?

The tears stream,

the heart bleeds,

and so it would seem

that all was lost

in the search for love.

Will she ever

feel worthy enough?

Was she so

undeserving of such?

The cost was too much.

This madness

which she has

unpleasantly traveled

for so long

cannot keep her

bound and tied forever.

It’s now or never!

She must remain strong.

She looks to

God above

and prays.

Lord, give me wings

to soar like a bird.

Then quietly whispers

these words-

Break the chains!
